The Dominican Republic is an island nation in the Caribbean. A majority of their citizens are very poor and lack access to proper education and healthcare. The foundation is striving to make a difference in the lives of children and families one village at a time.

  • Key Issues:
    • Over 25% of the population is living below the poverty line and the unemployment rate as of 2008 was at 15.4%.
    • Only 27% of males and 39% of females attend secondary schools. For every 1,000 students enrolled in the 9th grade, only 559 graduate.
    • The Dominican Republic has become a large source, transit, and destination country for mainly women and teenaged girls trafficked for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor.

What We Do to Make a Difference in the
Dominican Republic

Children’s Heritage Foundation is working with our local partners on a Clean Water Project that will provide running water to poor villages next to the country’s largest garbage dump.

The Clean Water Project - Phase 2
Develop a purified bottled water plant that will increase the community’s access to safe drinking water and serve as a source of jobs and economic development for the village.

Youth Development
The long-term goal of the foundation is to develop a program to address the social, education and economic needs of some young girls who are at high-risk of sexually exploitation.
